Movement 8 Moderne
When something is called 'modern' it generally means it is from this era, this time, now. But Modern can also point to the design movement that grew out of 1920s Modernism-as author Suzanne Torcme traces in Influential Interiors: "In America the Modern style combined art-deco and a restrained modernism featuring a startling geometrically, patterned form. By 1926 Streamlined Moderne evolved from both art-deco and the Bauhaus. Furniture was low, simple and horizontal shapes: rectangle, circle and triangle. Lines were sleek. Materials included brass, chrome and aluminium, rather than wood.
The Philippines claim to the Modern, Moderne and Modernist sensibility is a design consortium called Movement 8.
